Our DDGM was born March 23, 1978, at Victoria Hospital, London – yes, the old one on South St. – to parents Brian and Jane and older sister Jennifer. The family only moved once – from East London to Komoka in 1980, where they resided until 1997. Growing up, R.W. Bro. Humphrey was heavily into sports, specifically soccer, which he started playing at age 4. He also played hockey and highschool football, which led to many nights at a sporting venue plus the inevitable trips to the ER.
Once his playing days were over, Dave migrated from soccer player to soccer official, taking up a whistle for the first time at age 15, then again in his mid-thirties. After actively officiating for 10 years, he began to mentor new officials, and takes great pride in each one he helped up the officiating pyramid to Regional, Provincial and National status.
Dave graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary and attended Fanshawe College for 2 years in the Business-Accounting program. To pay the bills while in college, he worked as a security guard until an opportunity to indulge his passion with computers opened up, and he switched careers. He has spent nearly 25 years learning and growing his knowledge in computing, spending 13 years at London Life, 2 with a software start-up, eventually landing at Moffatt & Powell as their Manager of Information Technology for the last 6 years, expanding their technology offerings and increasing security across the company – all of which he is self-taught.
Our District Deputy met his eventual wife, Laura, in 2013. After a year of getting to know each other, he finally got the courage to ask her out – and she actually said yes! After an 18-month courtship and 3-month engagement (again to his amazement, she said yes), they were married on July 7, 2017. Today, you will find them hiking through the Pinery, out for dinner, or travelling. When he is not at his lady’s side, at work or at lodge, you will typically find R.W. Bro. Humphrey on a golf course, on the computer, or with his nose in a book learning.
R.W. Bro. Humphrey was initiated into Corinthian Lodge No. 330 on February 24, 2001, and was passed and raised in the same year. He progressed through the chairs very fast, eventually being installed as Master in January 2005. He also served as Secretary for 3 years before stepping down. Our brother was embraced by Oakridge Lodge No. 708 in January 2014, eventually serving as Worshipful Master from 2017 through 2019. While not a member of concordant bodies, our DDGM spent 5 years on the District Resource Team, serving in both the Benevolence and Education portfolios. He has also been involved at the Grand Lodge level, serving as a presenter of education at Days of Masonry or virtually through the Worshipful Master’s Workshops.
His theme this year is “The Whole is Greater”, which he hopes will inspire the brethren to contribute to the vibrance and engagement within the District so that the whole is greater than the sum of our individual contributions.
